In January 2006, a ministry to the Deaf, Talking Hands, was born!
Lisa, who heads up this ministry, taught for nine years. Her passion was special needs. Her last three years of teaching involved teaching profoundly deaf children through Sign Language at a school in Cape Town, South Africa. This, combined with short-term mission experience and the involvement of her deaf friends Agnes and Richard, led to the birth of Talking Hands.
This ministry has begun through drawing alongside an existing Deaf church, Masimbonge. We are providing Christianity Explained, the evangelistic tool Two Ways to Live, Bible studies, teaching and preaching training, interpreting, camps, a mission trip to Namibia and we are also teaching hearing people Sign Language.
Lisa’s aim is for her and others who are part of the ministry to serve the Deaf in the church body and in so doing, to glorify God. We would like the leaders of the Deaf and also hearing people learning Sign Language to be equipped to faithfully lead the Deaf to Christ and into greater Spiritual maturity.
